3D Artist Magazine feature - Real Time Prop Pipeline

I was recently fortunate enough to be asked to write a tutorial on the creation of a real-time 'prop' model for 3D Artist Magazine, issue 89. The brief was to choose appropriate subject matter, in this case an impact wrench (a tool used by motor racing pit crews) and to detail the entire process including the blockout, low and high poly modelling, unwrapping, texturing and creating a final presentation shot that would serve as the header image for the tutorial.

It was a really fun piece to work on and the baking process presented many challenges and learning opportunities, the triangle count came in at 14k and these screenshots were rendered using 4096 (²) texture maps (albedo, normal, specular and gloss).
